Chatfield_ReservoirChatfield Watershed Authority is overseen by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, and the Water Quality Control Commission as are many of the agencies making up the membership of the association. These state agencies provide the regulations, policies and water quality statutes. The Authority is required, by law, to conduct and provide various reports to ensure a consistent and appropriate public health service.

The Authority is governed by Regulation No. 73 which outlines the purpose, scope and reporting required. Water quality standards and stream classifications are defined in Regulation No. 38.
